Ukrainian citizens who have received humanitarian status and applied for a work permit through Form I-765 may request a refund of the state fee.
USCIS is refunding Form I-765 “Eligibility to Work” payments in the amount of $410 to Ukrainian citizens for those who:
- entered the United States from February 24, 2022 to September 30, 2023 under the program, DT, U4U in humanitarian password status, and who has an unexpired Form I-94
- who filed the original Form I-765 between May 21, 2022 and November 21, 2022
- and paid a registration fee of $410
On November 21, 2022, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced that certain Ukrainian citizens and their family members who have been granted temporary residence permits in the United States will automatically be issued a work permit along with their first employment document ( Employment Authorization Document (EAD), without charge.
Before this date, some Ukrainian citizens paid USCIS services to obtain an EAD. Now USCIS is offering a refund of these funds.
If the payment was made by credit or debit card, USCIS may issue a refund by crediting the card back. In cases where payment was made via check or money order, USCIS will send you a cashier’s check.
The return process may take up to 8-10 weeks, US Immigration Service reports
To receive a refund go to the USCIS website and fill out the form provided
You must provide an alien registration number, address, receipt number, contact information, as well as confirm your Ukrainian citizenship and approval of Form I-765 by USCIS, as well as receipt of a USCIS Form I-766 Employment Eligibility Document (EAD).
Work permits for Ukrainians are considered as a priority and are issued much faster. Also, recently, the EAD has been automatically extended for one and a half years, we wrote about this in this article
