Student visa holders always had a right to apply for a work permit if experiencing exceptional and serious economic difficulties due to unforeseen circumstances beyond their control. Examples of circumstances include, but are not limited to:
- Unexpected changes in the financial condition of your financial sponsor;
- Medical bills;
- Other significant and unexpected expenses; or
- Significant fluctuations in the value of the currency or exchange rate.
If the request for a work permit is approved, student can work off-campus. The work permit will have to be updated annually.
